Templates are provided as needed for each page, and instructions for cutting pieces are included on each piece. Pieces that require Heat n Bond may be cut two different ways:
- Print templates on regular paper, fuse Heat n Bond to felt (piece big enough to fit template pieces), and then trace template onto paper side of Heat n Bond. Cut pieces out.
- Tape Heat n Bond to regular paper and print template directly on Heat n Bond. Use pressing cloth or parchment paper between iron and Heat n Bond when fusing to felt, and then cut template.
Title Page
Supplies:
9×9” felt for page
7×7” white cotton fabric
7×7” fusible interfacing + 1×1” square
Silhouette template – download HERE (or create your own with fabric markers, stencils, embroidery, etc)
Heat transfer vinyl
Wonder Tape (optional)
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions to fuse interfacing to wrong side of white cotton.
- Use Silhouette file and machine to cut “MY QUIET BOOK” from vinyl. Remove negative vinyl.
- Press all four edges of cotton square ½” to wrong side.
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions to adhere vinyl to cotton square.
- Center cotton square on felt page and use Wonder Tape or pins to hold in place. Stitch around all four edges of cotton square.
- Fuse 1×1” interfacing square to wrong side of page, centering between top and bottom of page and between side edge and stitch lines (a button will later be sewn here as a closure).
Page 1 – Family Photo 
Supplies:
9×9” felt for page
felt pieces cut from templates
4 1/4×6 1/4” clear vinyl
Tissue paper
Wonder Tape
- Use Wonder Tape to adhere clear vinyl to back of felt frame piece (with center cut-out). Stitch around all four inner edges to secure vinyl to felt. Tip: Vinyl will likely stick to your sewing machine as you stitch – to remedy this, place a piece of tissue paper between the vinyl and your machine while stitching, and tear away vinyl afterwards.
- Stitch along top edge of frame only.
- Center frame on frame back felt piece (Wonder Tape recommended – if using pins, be sure to not pin through vinyl) and stitch around side an bottom edges, leaving top open.
- Center frame and backing on felt page and stitch around all four edges to secure in place.
- Insert 4×6” family photo.
Page 2 – Unicorn Braid

Heat n Bond
Yarn
Hair elastic (or create your own using fold over elastic)
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions to adhere Heat n Bond to felt used for unicorn. Print unicorn template, cut out, and trace onto backing of Heat n Bond (flip template upside down before tracing). Alternately: You may also print the template directly onto the Heat n Bond by taping to a regular sheet of paper prior to printing. Next, follow manufacturer’s instructions to adhere the Heat n Bond to felt.
- Cut along template lines, creating unicorn silhouette. Remove backing from Heat n Bond.
- Use measuring tape to cut approximately 32 strands of yarn, 10” in length. Tip: It helps to measure a 10” length and then loop the yarn back and forth 32 times, then cutting one end of loops all at once (you can leave the other looped ends until a later step).
- Stitch yarn ends to back of unicorn head, behind ear.
- Repeat steps above to create hair for forehead, using approximately 8 strands of yarn, each 3” long. Evenly clip looped ends of yarn.
- Keeping yarn out of way, center and fuse unicorn to felt page. Stitch around edges of unicorn. When stitching forehead areas, hold yarn down while stitching to allow yarn to lay downward.
- Braid long yarn strands and secure with elastic.
Page 3 – Shoe and Laces 
Supplies:
9×9” felt for page
felt pieces to cut from template
Heat n Bond
30” shoelace
5/32” eyelets and eyelet pliers
- Trace and cut felt pieces and Heat n Bond from templates. Remove Heat n Bond backing. Do not apply Heat n Bond to shoe top pieces, but use templates as a guide to cut out.
- Use eyelet pliers to attach eyelets to shoe top pieces as marked on template.
- Fuse toe to shoe base. Center and fuse shoe base to felt page and stitch around shoe base and toe, close to edges.
- Place shoe top pieces on shoe base and stitch in place, close to outer edges only.
- Thread shoelace through eyelets, starting at toe and tying in a bow at opposite end.
Page 4 – Apple Tree 
Supplies:
9×9” felt for page
felt pieces to cut from template
Heat n Bond
6 – 1/2×1/2” sew-in velcro pieces (trim from a strip of Velcro)
- Trace and cut felt pieces and Heat n Bond from templates using preferred method. Do not apply Heat n Bond to basket bottom piece, but use template as a guide to cut out. Remove Heat n Bond backings and lay all pieces out as illustrated.
- Remove all pieces except tree trunk and fuse tree trunk to felt page. Stitch around edges to secure in place.
- Place tree top and grass over tree trunk and fuse in place. Stitch close to edges of felt (a rectangle can be stitched for grass).
- Place basket bottom over grass and stitch in place, leaving top edge open. Fuse basket handle above basket and stitch close to all edges to secure in place.
- Place hook side of Velcro pieces on tree top and stitch in place.
- Cut 6 2×2” squares from red felt. Center loop side of Velcro on each piece and stitch in place.
- Center and fuse one apple piece to each red square, on opposite side that Velcro was sewn (be sure apple piece will be centered over Velcro).
- Stitch around each apple, close to edge. Trim square piece to match apple and place apples on tree.
Page 5 – Closures
Supplies:
9×9” felt for page
2 – 1×9” felt strips
1 – 12” length of webbing (width to fit parachute buckle)
1 – 10” length of webbing (width to fit d-rings)
2 d-rings
parachute buckle
6” non-separating zipper
Wonder Tape (optional)
- Center zipper on felt page using pins or Wonder Tape and stitch in place along each side, top, and bottom.
- Cut 12” length of webbing piece into 5” and 7” lengths. Thread webbing through end of 5” length of webbing, fold end back 1 1/2”. Stitch in place, close to webbing raw edge, with two rows of stitching. Turn end of 7” length of webbing 1/2” and stitch in place to secure.
- Place webbing on felt page on one side of zipper and stitch in place at each raw edge.
- Cut 10” webbing piece in half and thread one end through parachute buckle. Fold back 1/2” and stitch close to raw edge to secure. Repeat with other webbing piece and stitch webbing ends next to zipper on opposite side from d-rings, spacing evenly.
- Pin or use Wonder Tape to place felt strips 1/2” from top and bottom of page, covering top and bottom raw edges of closures. Stitch around all four edges of each felt strip to secure in place.
Page 6 – Shapes 
Supplies:
9×9” felt for page
felt pieces to cut from template
Heat n Bond
5 – 1/2×1/2” sew-in Velcro pieces
- Cut template shapes from Heat n Bond and felt (either print template directly onto Heat n Bond or print on regular paper and trace after Heat n Bond is fused to felt). For each shape, cut 2 with Heat n Bond. A third of each shape will be cut in a later step.
- Remove Heat n Bond backing from felt and fuse one set of shapes to felt page with desired placement. Stitch each shape in place, close to outer edges.
- Use one shape to trace another on a small piece of felt. Center hook side of Velcro in middle of shape and stitch in place around edges.
- Cut traced shape out, just outside of traced lines (the excess will be trimmed neatly after the two pieces are stitched together), and fuse non-Velcro side of one shape to Heat n Bond side of matching shape. Trim excess felt around Velcro side of shape to make edges even.
- Repeat steps above to assemble shapes.
Quiet Book Assembly
Supplies:
12 – 3/8” grommets and grommet pliers (found at your local Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store or can use a grommet tool)
large button
round elastic or non-slip covered hair elastic
3 – 1/2” binder rings
- Place pages in desired order, wrong sides together, and stitch each front/back together, close to all four edges. For last page/back cover, fold a 4” length of round elastic (a hair elastic also works great) in half and sandwich between the two layers on right edge of last page before stitching (elastic should stick out 1 1/2” from edge of book). Backstitch a few times when stitching through felt/elastic for added strength.
- Hand stitch large button to quiet book cover page, centering between top and bottom edges and cotton and side edge (check placement with elastic to ensure proper positioning), and stitching through cover page only.
- Measure and mark 1 1/2” from top and bottom, 5/8” in from left side, on each set of pages. Measure and make a third mark exactly between the top and bottom marks. Use grommets and grommet pliers to attach grommets at markings.
- Use binder rings to assemble all pages together.
